I moved to Panglao, Philippines, because of my fiance – he is a Freedive Instructor Trainer. And although I loved the ocean, was doing scuba diving, and was comfortable in the water, I wasn’t a great swimmer.
In Panglao, I was swimming every day, practicing, taking lessons, started freediving, and discovered how fun and exciting snorkeling and freediving really are. With the dive center, we ran mermaid courses, and I discovered my inner mermaid.
For me, it made perfect sense to develop further and train my skills to become a licensed freediving instructor and then, later on, a certified mermaid instructor.
Now I love mermaid photography, developing tails and outfits with our tailors, and even sometimes, I still teach the mermaid courses. I am a mermaid! 😍

The mermaid courses are fun, exciting, and a great way to spend time in the beautiful waters of Panglao!
Each mermaid will get free unedited complimentary GoPro photos and videos of your experience. A premium mermaid tail and Mahina monofin will be provided for each student to help you swim your way to your SSI Mermaid certification.

Please note that this video was shot at our first location. We still dive at the same incredible Napaling Reef with the sardines but moved about 300 meters down the road to a brand-new and fully equipped dive center with bungalows and a two-lane 25-meter pool.

Although it will help, you don’t need any freediving or mermaid experience for this modeling photo day. Our in-house talented underwater photographer will guide you through your aquatic photography sessions and help you capture the perfect photo.
We start in the morning with postures in the pool to ensure you are comfortable and well-instructed for the flawless pose. Then in the afternoon, we go to the famous Napaling Reef for a shooting along the reef, with the sardines and plenty of corals and fish around.

Beginner and Recreational SSI Mermaid Courses – Exploring a New World with a Tail!
A brand new experience for young and old. The dream of every little girl! Who doesn’t want to be a real-life mermaid?!
Our well-trained mermaid instructor team will teach you modeling. You will learn how to model for the best-looking pictures on land and in the pool or ocean. But mermaid-ing isn’t all about looking beautiful. We teach our mermaid students how to swim with a monofin and mermaid tail. More importantly, we teach you all the necessary in-water safety skills to model and swim safely in any in-water environment. The progressive learning systems of SSI are a guarantee that you’ll experience swimming and diving in a safe and fun manner. Are you ready for a fin-tastic experience?!
Want to spend more time as a mermaid? This Mermaid course is a more intensive version of the Try Mermaid course. During this 2-day course, in 3 pool sessions, you will learn proper fin swimming techniques, how to blow bubble kisses and perform headstands, and proper safety techniques. In no time, you can master techniques to transform yourself into a magical mermaid and show off your shell-tastic new mermaid-ing skills in the pool. Previous diving experience or mermaid-ing experience is not necessary to join this course.
