The freediving competition season 2016 has really started with its first serious comp in Dubai. Named after Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, the Fazza Championship is an annual sporting event organized by the Hamdan bin Mohammed Heritage Center to celebrate the rich cultural heritage and activities of the UAE.
Branko Petrovic was on a mission this year and was ready to get his ‘revenge’ to take the number 1 spot for the 3rd time where he missed his chance last year.
“I was disqualified from the finals in 2015 as I left the rope for a moment, and I didn’t want to take that chance again this year. I didn’t want to risk it, so I’d have even been satisfied with a much closer result. I honestly didn’t know my time.”
The Serb Petrovic outclassed his competition with an incredible time of 10:14.66s, which gave him almost a minute to the runner up the Croatian Goran Colak with the time of 9:16.18s. The third place went to the pole Mateusz Jan Malina with the time of 8:29.19s. Veljano Zanki (8:17.37s) and Alexander Bubenchikov (7:59.19s) ended up 4 and 5.
